Rule 1: Know Yourself
To experience the feelings of comfort and self-confidence shared by happy people, probe more deeply into your "inner self" and find your "place" in life. You are different from everyone else on the planet. No one else has your exact genes and experience. No one else has your exact traits, principles and beliefs. Understanding yourself and your missions in life will give your self-esteem a real boost.
Rule 2: Overcome Fears
By confronting your fears you will feel energized and free to follow your "passions." Being afraid is part of the human condition. But, harboring fears and excuses for not taking action will stifle your growth and lead to unhappiness and frustration. Plan to attack those gremlins rooted in your subconscious and open up new vistas for your future.
Rule 3: Correct Imbalances
You can expect a new-found inner peace and hope regarding the future when you live simply and balanced. These are standards to use when you make decisions about how you want to live. Remove the imbalances and complexities that are blocking your path. In order to create the future you want, first get rid of the excess baggage that is weighing you down.
Rule 4: Keep Perspective
Life is full of problems which can bleed the fun and energy out of you. Combat these leeches by maintaining the "correct" perspective:
- Climate should be a source of physical health and energy.
- Relationships should be a source of stability and emotional security.
- Money should be a source of cultural freedom and security.
- Spirituality should be a source of comfort and peace of mind.
- Careers should be a source of personal achievement and success.
Rule 5: Give Yourself Direction and Focus
You won't feel confused or make decisions reluctantly after creating a personal roadmap to your future. Apply the planning techniques used by both successful organizations and happy individuals. By defining your purpose, setting goals, and planning your actions, you will experience the satisfaction and empowered joy of taking control of your life.
