FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions:

Q. Why are there activities on my PLAY List that are not of any interest to me?
A. Activities are of interest for many reasons. The Leisure Time ToolTM captures some of those reasons, but not all. For instance singing may fit your Need Pattern very well, but if you have no talent for singing that activity will not appeal to you. Our suggestion is that you not focus on the activities that don’t fit, but rather on those that do interest you. Any new, enjoyable leisure activity is cause for celebration!

Q. What if none of the PLAY List activities provided by the Leisure Time ToolTM look interesting to me?
A. We have provided several ways for you to find interesting activities. As explained on the PLAY List page, you may want to go through the tool again and change some of your answers. That will bring up a different PLAY List. You could also decide to try just one of the 12 categories of activities. For instance, try Creative Pursuits and see what your PLAY List activities are in that category. With over 1200 different leisure activities in the database we are sure you will find at least one of interest and we are dedicated to helping you do just that.

Q. I did find some activities of interest, but they are things I am already doing. Now what?
A. First, you should realize that the tool did what it is supposed to do. You put in a pattern of needs and the tool found activities of interest. Good work! Since different Need Patterns will bring up different PLAY Lists, we suggest you search again but change some of your need levels. You should be able to find some interesting activities that you are not already enjoying.

Q. It’s called the Leisure Time ToolTM, but I found activities on my PLAY List that are considered part-time work. How can that be?
A. Most of the activities in our database are in fact leisure activities. But, in recognition of the fact that a substantial portion of retirees are interested in supplementing their income, we included part-time work activities as well.

Q. I am physically disabled. Will the Leisure Time ToolTM take that into account?
A. One of the need scales is Physical Challenge. If some activities are hard or impossible for you to do, we suggest you include a need at the low end of the Physical Challenge scale.

Q. I am only interested in adding a physical activity to my life. Do I really have to search your entire database?
A. Certainly not. You can limit your search to any one of our 12 Categories. In your case, Sports & Exercise would be the best place to find a physical activity most suited to your needs.

Q. I searched All Categories, but my PLAY List only included activities from four different categories. Why don’t I see activities from all 12 categories?
A. The Leisure Time ToolTM finds the activities that are the closest match to the needs you entered. If only four categories showed up that means the activities in the other categories weren’t as good a match for the Need Pattern you specified.
